Today we took a closer look at this tree. It must have grown far away from other trees, because it grew wider than tall. We have something to compare it to, because we saw many old oaks in the castle park in Dubiecko. On the opposite side of the trunk, an unpleasant surprise awaited us - the trunk is very hollow and unprotected. This does not bode well for the future of this tree. Where else have we seen such hollows filled with concrete or assembly foam. Why did the nature conservator not take protective measures here? WW

The Saint Nicholas Oak grows at a distance from the main road and can be overlooked, especially since the ruins of the church attract attention, while the oak grows on the opposite side of the road - behind the Firefighter's House (OSP Tarnawa Górna). To get there from Zagórze, turn right at the church ruins into the street in front of the club-café. More about the oak itself is written in the photo. WW

I asked women passing by how long the chapel had been standing there. They replied that it had been standing there for at least 50 years, because that was how long they had been living there, and it had been standing there since then. It had recently been restored, as indicated by the information board placed to the left of the chapel. WW

Recently, asphalt was laid on the last missing section (counting from the observation tower through Dolina to the Sewage Treatment Plant in Zagórz) - I mean the short section from the barbecue area on the San River towards the buildings of the village of Dolina. The section where the bicycle route moves away from the San River and has the character of a local street, without the "pedestrian and bicycle path" signs. When driving after dark, be careful of the deep ditch along this street.

The wooden church in Baligród already existed in 1761. The current brick church was built in 1829 from the foundation of Onufry Karsznicki, the owner of Baligród. In 1928 it was rebuilt and renovated. At that time a wooden dome was built in place of a small turret for a bell tower. The church is surrounded by a stone cemetery wall, preserved on the north side. A screen bell tower with three arcades adjoins the wall from the north. The church has been closed since 1947. Until the early 1980s, it was used as a warehouse. In 1985, by decision of the Provincial Conservator of Monuments in Krosno, the church together with the entire complex: the temple, the belfry, the trees and the church wall: were entered into the Register of Monuments /registration number A-51/. In 2005, the Mayor of the Baligród Commune transferred the church, which was in a state of construction disaster, to the Association for Saving the Church in Baligród. Since 2007, as funds and donations are raised, renovation and construction works have been carried out. source: information board at the church

The pedestrian and bicycle path on the section from the Valley to the sewage treatment plant in Zagórze is already elegantly asphalted. The width allows cyclists and pedestrians to pass each other freely. The descent from the Valley side has a slope of 12%, and the slope is secured with railings to prevent anyone from slipping towards the river. For those coming from Zagórze, it is recommended to get off the bike and ride uphill. This is the only steep place on this section. In Zagórze, on DK84 and Dolina (at intersections), it would be useful to have graphic markings to make it clear where the path begins, because not everyone uses a map. It is worth avoiding the busy and currently under renovation DK84 road and driving along the San River, seeing beautiful views and listening to birds singing instead of the roar of motor vehicles. WW

The place is located above the sewage treatment plant in Zagórze, a dozen or so meters from the walking and cycling path and from the bank of Osława. A wooden shelter where you can sit at a table, with benches and a grill nearby. There are boards under the ceiling of the shelter, on one side, I don't know if it's a primitive place to sleep or a shelter from wolves 😉 It could be cleaned better. WW
