Nostalgia on a cable: since 1976 it has been tirelessly hovering over the rugged rocks of the Carpathians. At 50 years old, it's no longer a modern high-tech speedster, but a real mechanical workhorse that "just keeps going and going and going". Maximum 15+1 people. A single ride costs 80 Lei in April 2026.

You just have to imagine: if the Evangelical City Parish Church could speak today, it would probably have the deep, pleasant voice of a very old wise person. Its masonry has certainly experienced and seen a lot in its over 600 years of city history. It has experienced sieges where the people of Hermannstadt held their breath. It has experienced magnificent weddings where the organ played with such joy that the church tower shook, and it has experienced countless generations of Hermannstadt's citizens, accompanying them from baptism, through confirmation and wedding, to their final journey. A visit to the church tower is highly recommended. The four small corner turrets offer a wonderful view of the old town, the Făgăraș Mountains in the background, and across Transylvania. 73 meters high, whoever built so high in the past certainly had the say in this beautiful city. The gravestones of the old patricians of Hermannstadt have now been largely built into the walls so that they are not damaged. Sometimes, when it is very quiet, you can still hear the tapping of the stonemasons from the 14th century. It is very beautiful and I would say: it is the memory of this city.

For 2 lei you can climb up, look into the rooms of the tower and have a beautiful view from the top (but only from behind the window panes)

Since everything was full at first, we were kindly offered to sleep in the dining room. We ended up getting a bed in the dormitory for 150 lei. That was very nice, but not exactly cheap. In the evening, there was food available at the stated times, but the portions were really small (for 50 lei). We wanted to have lunch again before the descent at the stated lunchtime of 12-2 p.m., but when we asked, nothing was cooked. We then bought ourselves a Snickers and a Coke there and set off. So don't rely on the lunchtime meal times.

Simple, beautifully situated stone hut with large dormitories – thin wool blankets and pillows provided, sleeping bag recommended. Good drinking water from a mountain spring, very simple food (vegetarian options, however, only available upon reservation the night before!). There are toilets and sinks with cold water for washing. In summer, the dining room and dormitories are not heated in the evenings and at night. Breakfast is served from 7 a.m., allowing for an early start to Moldoveanu. The hut has comparatively high prices, which is understandable given its high and remote location. Reservations are a good idea in summer.
