Kunkelsstrasse

Highlight (Segment) • Mountain Pass

With e-support, the steep climb from Tamins is no problem at all. It is definitely better than having to brake all the way down... (the rear descent to Vättis is then much less steep and therefore not as brake-intensive).
So with "Bio" it is better to approach from the north, with "e" it is better to approach from the south...

Älplisee Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Tour description

Technically demanding enduro tour to Arosa, Chur and back. The highlight is the fantastic single trail from Gredigs Fürggli to Arosa and the descent through the Urdental to Tschiertschen.
The Älplise trail is one of the most beautiful in the Rothorn massif. The tour starts at the Lenzerheide information office. After the first few meters through Lenzerheide, you can take the train to the Rothorn summit. From there, you take the Bike Attack route (No. 611) through the gallery to Gredigs Fürggli. Here the tour turns right. It goes through the Schafälpli valley towards Arosa, or rather to the valley station of the Hörnli Express. This takes you comfortably back to Hörnli. Now it goes on a technically demanding single trail through the Urdental to Tschiertschen. Once you arrive in Tschiertschen, you take the cantonal road to Chur. Shortly before Passugg, the tour turns back onto a single trail. From Chur you can either take the post bus back to Lenzerheide or via Brambrüesch - Churwalden - Alp Stätz.
Variant(s)
Variant A: Lenzerheide - Rothorngipfel - Gallerie - Gredigs Fürggli - Älplisee - Arosa - Hörnli - Urdenfürggli - Scharmoin - Lenzerheide (ascent: 180m, descent: 2200m, duration: 2.5h)
The single trail between Gredigs Fürggli and Arosa is technically demanding and partially exposed.

I rode from the Klunkel Pass towards Vättis. There's a comfortable, fairly flat descent. The area is very beautiful. I took a short nap on a bench in the shade by the stream.

A really beautiful mountain pass that takes you from the canton of Graubünden to Glarus (Elm). The last part is up a steep metal staircase, otherwise it would be quite a climb! You can also sit very nicely on the rocks above the hut.

The last few meters from the Graubünden side used to be a somewhat demanding scramble - but for some time now it has been possible without any problems thanks to a stable metal staircase

In addition to many beautiful views of the Sardona stone world, the real highlight: the journey to the Kunkelspass is largely car-free.

The highest point of the Kunkels Pass is 1,357 meters. It was probably already used in Roman times.
