The Giant's Misdeeds. But the giant was by no means content with his new home. He delighted in committing misdeeds throughout the region, robbing and plundering houses. He loudly mocked the people he robbed and hurled the most vile insults at them. His greatest pleasure was stealing brides from young farmers at weddings and devouring them on his tower. Grinning mockingly, he would throw the human bones from the tower's top window onto the same spot each time, and over time, this created a whole mountain of bones, which is still known today as the Bone Mountain. 😊😉

Since the giant was too large to live in any house, he decided to build his own dwelling in Liebenzell. It had to be large and impregnable. With two journeymen, he began to construct a massive tower. To make the walls impregnable, he ordered his journeymen to steal barrels of red wine from the surrounding area and to mix the mortar for the tower with wine instead of water. Thus, a huge tower was built from large blocks of stone, in which the giant and his two journeymen now lived. The red wine stained the stones, giving the tower its reddish hue, which it still has today. 😊😉

In the 12th century, the castle of the same name was built on a spur above present-day Bad Liebenzell. The castle consisted of several buildings and a thick curtain wall with an integrated keep. The dry moat now serves as a parking lot. The keep and curtain wall have been preserved and can be visited during opening hours. Today, the castle serves as a conference center and restaurant. From the keep, there is a far-reaching view over the surrounding valleys, which were monitored from the castle.
