Cycling

On this tour, you'll cycle along quiet paths, past fields, meadows, and babbling brooks. The Münsterland park landscape around Sendenhorst offers expansive views, tranquil nature, and exciting discoveries along the way.

Your starting point is the indoor swimming pool in Sendenhorst. Leaving the town, you'll immediately find yourself immersed in the typical Münsterland park landscape. Upon reaching the banks of the Werse River near Albersloh, it's well worth taking a break. A picnic area with a swimming spot is the perfect place to relax.

Following the Werse Cycle Path, lined with informative panels that provide insights into the nature and history along the route, you'll arrive in Drensteinfurt. Among the oldest buildings in the town is the Old Post Office, dating back to 1647.

Over the remaining kilometers, the Münsterland region reveals its rural side once more. You pass the Haardt ponds with their fruit trees, dry meadows and small biotopes – as a crowning finale, before you reach the starting point of your route again.

Old Post, Drensteinfurt

Highlight • Historical Site

The Old Post Office is one of the most important historical monuments in the town of Drensteinfurt in the Warendorf district (North Rhine-Westphalia). This half-timbered townhouse is located on Mühlenstraße and was built in 1647. It is remarkably large for its time (28.30 meters long and 12.85 meters wide) and initially served as a warehouse and granary. The building also included living quarters. From 1850 to 1917, it served as a post station, from which the building's name is derived. Stagecoaches and horses were housed there.

Between 1976 and 1980, it underwent extensive renovations and is now used for council meetings, weddings, and exhibitions. On June 28, 1982, it was added to the list of protected monuments of the town of Drensteinfurt. An old well, also part of the ensemble, has been a protected monument since January 20, 2005.

Sendenhorst Town Hall

Highlight • Monument

The predecessor of today's town hall had also stood on the same site for approximately 100 years at the beginning of 1911. The construction of a new town hall, in conjunction with the establishment of a fire station and jail, was first discussed at the town council meeting on May 3, 1910. It was the then-mayor, Hetkamp, who presented the plans for the new town hall to the town council on June 7, 1910.
