Jordan Pond Path

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

The Jordan Pond Path is a year-round hiking trail along the shoreline of Jordan Pond. Hiking trails to the Penobscot, Sargent, Pemetic Mountains, and the Bubbles begin at this trailhead. Parking is available at the Jordan Pond House and along Park Loop Road at the Bubbles-Pemetic Trailhead.

We hiked the trail along the east shore in May 2024 as we descended from Sargent Mountain and returned to the parking lot at the Jordan Pond House. We had to skip the hike over the Bubbles Divide because there is construction going on on this trail.

The climb to the summit of the ‘South Bubble’ from the parking lot at the ‘Bubbles Divide Trail’ on the ‘Park Loop Road’ is a moderately difficult hike; the rocky path leads up with a slight incline. At the summit, the view to the north is blocked by tree cover; however, at the ‘Bubble Rock’ a little below on the eastern slope, this is possible.
To the south, below the summit, lies Jordan Pond. The view extends to the ‘Jordan Pond House’, across the moraine landscape and further to the ‘Cranberry Isles’. To the west rise the ‘Sargent and Penobscot Mountains’ and to the east the ‘Pemetic Mountain’.
The ascent and descent from/to the ‘Jordan Pond’ in the south leads over steep, rocky terrain and is challenging.

Bubble Rock at South Bubble

Highlight • Natural Monument

East of the summit of the 'South Bubble' (220 m) lies the striking 'Bubble Rock' at the top of the granite cliff. The rock, made of a different granite, was transported from the north by a glacier during the Ice Age and deposited here when it melted.

Beautiful tour, weather good for hiking and climbing, unfortunately no panoramic view from Bubble Rock

Have hiking boots on, at least if you're planning to hike up to the bubbles

If you want park in car park, arrive early. Also, the ascent of the Bubbles Trail is quite challenging but also rewarding. We would not want to descend it, so please follow the recommended route. We found the path we descended on much easier. When ascended up the Bubbles Trail, we needed both hands free to grip onto rocks to pull ourselves up. Make sure you have a pocket or bag to stow away any phone or camera you may be holding whilst climbing.

One of the easier hikes in Acadia park. Mostly level paths, light gravel on the east side of Jordan Pond. West side has areas where you scramble over large rocks and boulders, then a long boardwalk about the more sensitive areas.

Beautiful circular route around the lake. On the west side there is almost a continuous plank walkway
