Burton Bradstock is a stunning Dorset village lying just back from the beach in Lyme Bay. A popular holiday destination, the village has everything you need with cafes, pubs and lovely accommodation.

You can walk down to the coast path and hike in either direction on paths maintained by the National Trust as part of the South West Coast Path. The long-distance Hardy Way path also follows the coast here, affording outstanding views of the sea, to the Isle of Portland and across the bay to Lyme Regis and further west.

Thorncombe Beacon

Highlight • Summit

Location: It is situated about 2.5 miles (4 km) west of West Bay, between the villages of Eype and Seatown.

Height: Its elevation is about 157 metres (515 ft) high, offering stunning panoramic views of the coastline, including West Bay to the east and the towering Golden Cap to the west.

History: Its name comes from its use as one of a chain of beacon sites along the south coast of England, historically used to light fires to provide an early warning of invasion, most famously against the Spanish Armada in 1588.

Immediately east of Burton Beach, the clifftop makes for a fantastic place to stroll, particularly in clear weather. The views from these large cliffs are excellent and you can see considerable distances around Lyme Bay.

Stay away from the cliff edges as they are slowly eroding.

The Seaside Boarding House

Highlight • Beach

Great location with super views. Nice tea and cake in the warm and made to feel very welcome. The Hive on the beach is cheaper I guess.
You can walk directly onto the beach from here.
