Oker River Trail

Highlight • Trail

Great trail with lots of water access and picnic areas. Lots of great perspectives. It's also fun to watch the climbers.

Engagement Island (HWN 116)

Highlight • Natural

The engagement island with the stamp number 116 of the "Harzer Wanderadel" is probably one of the most beautiful resting places. It is located in the middle of the course of the Oker, which at this point is more like a mountain stream. Over a small, curved wooden bridge you reach the engagement island, located between mighty granite blocks. The stones are remnants and evidence of the last ice age, which also formed the Oker valley.

Eagle Cliff

Highlight • Viewpoint

A stony path, a narrow footbridge and a few steps will take you to the eagle cliff. From here you have a great view of the Upper Harz Aqueduct and with a little luck you can watch the climbers.

View of the Okertal Valley

Highlight • Viewpoint

For the steep ascent, day trippers will be rewarded with wonderful views of the Okertal. Those who hike in the Oker Valley in dry summers must expect to see only a trickle in the river bed. The Okertalsperre located above catches the water and regulates the outflow.

Romkerhall Waterfall

Impressive is the waterfall when enough precipitation has fallen.

June 4, 2022,284. HWN-Tour: Romkerhall – 116
After the long day at work yesterday, there was only a short warm-up lap today. At the moment we are on the hunt for the last stamps for the third hiking emperor, so I'm planning other routes as well.

In mixed weather, today's hike took us past the Adlerklippe to the Romkerhall Waterfall. 🤣😂
The return trip took us along the old Harz road to the Waldhaus in the Okertal valley.🍺🍺

On Saturday there was a group hike to which my hiking friend Michael took me and Uwe, a resin stamp hunter, was also part of the party.

We started the hike at the Waldhaus in the Okertal near Goslar.
From there it went over stony paths towards Romkerhall.
On a piece we had a beautiful view of the cloudy landscape …

Of the many suggested tours near Bad Harzburg, I intuitively chose this tour in the Oker Valley, from the Okertal Fountain to the Kingdom at the Romkerhall Waterfall. I couldn't have chosen better. It was exactly my thing! I passed some very special rock formations (see captions under the photos!) where I could watch climbers. The Engagement Island, the fairytale …

Still full of inspiration from our morning tour in Torfhaus, we set off from the Romkerhall waterfall on the Okertal cliff path towards our first destination, the engagement island.
From the island we continued along the wild Oker. However, the hiking trail seemed a bit too boring for us at times, so we changed …

Our tour today was supposed to be longer, but I was really struggling with the heat.

So today we're doing a short, crisp alternative in the Oker Valley.

The Romker Waterfall was unfortunately a big disappointment due to the dry weather.

The hike itself was very beautiful, but very strenuous in the heat.
