Sale Fell

Highlight • Trail

The most northern of Wainwright's North Western Fells, Sale Fell is quiet and peaceful with fantastic views. As there are lots of different paths to explore too, it's definitely a place to put on your list.

Broom Fell Summit Cairn

Highlight • Viewpoint

Broom Fell has a really large summit cairn and also a wind shelter. It stands at 1,677 feet (511 m). It's often climbed from the direction of Graystones or Lord's Seat (its higher neighbour) over grassy trails. I love the view to Skiddaw from the summit.

Lord's Seat summit

Highlight • Natural Monument

Lord's Seat is a 1,811-foot (552 m) Wainwright fell in the Lake District. It's most commonly hiked alongside Broom Fell, Barf or Whinlatter (or all three). There are beautiful views from the top with a bit of everything: forest, lake and open fellside.

Barf Summit

Highlight • Viewpoint

Barf is a gorgeous little fell overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake. It's a member of the North Western Fells family and is easily linked with neighbouring Lord's Seat.

A word of caution. The ascent up Barf's south east face, via the Bishop of Barf (a distinctive white-painted rock), catches a lot of people out. It is relentlessly steep and features the kind of tricky scrambling that is normally associated with larger fells. Mountain Rescue receive a number of call outs every year to this route. You have been warned.
