View of the Peak District

Highlight • Viewpoint

With breath-taking landscapes, rich history and miles of traffic-free bike paths, the Peak District is a dream for cyclists. Founded in 1951, the Peak District was the first area to become an official national park in the UK. Its 555 square miles (1,444 km2) extends across Derbyshire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire. With a huge amount of wildlife diversity and pretty gray-stone villages heralding back to the UK's industrial era, the Peak District is a fantastic destination to cycle.

Winscar Reservoir

Highlight • Structure

A large reservoir with spectacular scenery, the Winscar Reservoir is popular with hikers and bikers as well as windsurfers and sailors. The Pennine Sailing Club has its base at the reservoir. Surrounded by hills, the calm waters of the reservoir are a great place to have a break. During the summer, you can stop off at the ice cream van for a treat!

Holmfirth town centre

Highlight • Historical Site

Good selection of cafes and take away food shops in a scenic town. Down side is that the town is surrounded by steep hills so any bike ride will require hard work to leave the town.
The Riverside cafe (at first floor level near the river) is popular with cyclists.

The elevation showing on here is not correct. Nice little ride, quiet roads and TPT. Some good hills, including Jackson Bridge downhill. Beautiful views
