Hörnum Odde (Southern Tip of Sylt)

Highlight • Beach

Yes, although the southern tip is getting smaller and smaller, it's still worth it to circle around. There is a lot to see, eg. For example, the lighthouse, the southern tip, the ode with bollards and lots of nature. A preferred time does not exist because it is always beautiful, of course, the sunset has always something special to offer.

For many couples, a dream comes true with a wedding on the Hörnum lighthouse. From April to October, those willing to marry Friday mornings and Monday afternoons in dizzy heights can give the yes-word.

The couple in front of us suspected aliens were at work – we quickly suspected the waves. It's truly strange what geometric-looking shapes the ebb and flow of the tide create.

It was stormy but still beautiful and in the South Cape there was a warm cocoa 😉

The Hörnum-Odde on the southern tip of Sylt was designated as a nature reserve in 1972 with a size of 157 hectares. Since then, large parts of the Odde have been eroded by the sea, so that in 2017 there was only around 20 hectares of land.

At the southernmost tip of Sylt, you can easily remember the location of the neighboring islands using the "Ralf rule": Amrum on the right, Föhr on the left 😃

Today we explored the south of the island in and around Hörnum. From there, you can see as far as Föhr and Amrum (or take the ferry).
Because of the low tide, we were able to walk far out into the sea on the beach.

There is a small free parking lot in Greth Skrabbel-Wai, which we used as a starting point.

Today the attempt to hike around the southern tip of Sylt. It also worked, although according to the map we were in the middle of the water. There seems to be a lot to do here in terms of agricultural technology. Impressive the many concrete parts for coastal protection. In the distance Amrum and Föhr according to the Ralf principle …

February 13, 2025,6ter Spaziergang Sylt
The path was beautiful. But Hörnum is difficult. All streets are strictly no-stopping. Plenty of parking spaces, but only card payments or parking apps are possible. Went to the local council and left a statement. Shrug of the shoulders.

In a small time window (like everywhere here, there was a severe weather warning for constant rain with strong winds) then a relaxed lap around the Odde, the southern tip of Hörnum.
We were able to observe a playful seal (Willi or Sylta?) near the beach 🙏.
Spontaneous departure was once again worth it...

Who ruined the sun?
Today: Wake up, sun is shining. Breakfast, sun is shining. Pack hiking backpack and beach bag, sun is shining.
Set off, only clouds 😪

Showing Translation

Went around the southernmost tip of Sylt today with a strong breeze/storm, something different but great to walk along the beach in such a nasty weather.. The altitude meters were enormous 😁.. When I consider that I was still on one 6 weeks ago Summit of 2600 mtr. was standing.
