West Bexington Beach

Highlight • Beach

A shingle beach that stretches for miles, West Bexington is a wonderful place to visit in every season. The main draw is walking, as you can see considerable distances along the coast in both directions.

It can be a lovely spot for a dip when the sea is calm. However, note that the shingle shelves steeply almost immediately under the water, making it potentially dangerous for children and for everyone when there are waves.

Burton Bradstock is a stunning Dorset village lying just back from the beach in Lyme Bay. A popular holiday destination, the village has everything you need with cafes, pubs and lovely accommodation.

The long-distance Hardy Way path also follows the coast here, affording outstanding views of the sea, to the Isle of Portland and across the bay to Lyme Regis and further west.

Burton Mere

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

This small area of trapped water is a thriving habitat that could easily go unnoticed. Reed beds surround the twin meres, creating shelter for vast amounts of visiting birds as well as habitats for butterflies and dragonflies. You can find water rail, sedge warblers and winter wading birds here at various times of year, so keep an eye out as you walk by.

In Memoriam

Highlight • Monument

Corporal Neil Martin Blain, S.B.S. (Special Boat Service, Royal Marines), died on June 21, 1994, at the age of 31.
