The Mersey River winds past Latrobe on its way to the sea at Devonport, with its wide, tidal waters opening up into an expansive, calm stretch. From here, the river spreads out toward the low, forested hills on the far bank, with a small gravel outcrop, making it a lovely spot to take a break along the cycleway. The river has also played an important role in Latrobe’s history, with the area around Bell’s Parade once serving as a busy port.
