The washhouse is one of the most important buildings of Maria Lai's "Open-Air Museum".
Fallen into disuse around the 70s, it was recovered and enriched by various installations in the following decade.

1) a frame, created by Maria Lai, made up of several ropes that intertwine in the iron pipes of the washhouse to create an enormous traditional frame.
2) a sound fountain, by Costantino Nivola (and the last of his career), built from bronze tiles where water flows creating different melodies
3) a mosaic, placed above the "Fontana e susu", made with granite, white and pink marbles, and stones, created by Luigi Veronesi.
Lastly, the paving of the square is by Guido Strazza.
