From the viewing platform, you have a good view of the Saspoort Bridge and the Grote Steunbeer (Great Buttress). The construction of the Saspoort Bridge is an important step in the restoration of the Grote Steunbeer itself. In the next phase, the old weir will be repaired and made controllable so that Demer water can flow through Diest again. Together with the opening of the Demer River in 2016, this restoration will ensure that the city and its surroundings are better protected against flooding and will give nature a boost.
