It’s not Great Orme’s height that’s impressive, especially given that it’s a mere 679 feet (207 m) compared to the towering peaks of nearby Snowdonia. Instead, it’s the hill’s location that draws tens of thousands of people every year.

There are plenty of attractions on this stunning limestone headland. It branches out from Llandudno in North Wales, reaching into the Irish Sea and providing views to Anglesey. With a cable car, ski slopes and one of the UK’s longest toboggan runs, it’s a fun family spot. No matter your experience, Great Orme has some brilliant trails waiting for you.

Cliff tops and Snowdonia views

You can find the summit of Great Orme in the centre of the headland, right next to the top cable car station. There’s a trig pillar here and fantastic views over the sprawling Llandudno town and south east, to the imposing peaks of Snowdonia National Park. Immediately south, Conway Bay sparkles and the magnificent island of Anglesey lies to the east.

The headland is criss-crossed with footpaths, and you can walk the entire perimeter too. There’s a perimeter road as well. Exploring above the coastline here is great for spotting birds like guillemots, razorbills, gannets and even peregrine falcons.

Great Orme gets busy during school holidays, particularly around the summit station and cafe. There are plenty of car parks dotted around the hill though, including more in Llandudno, so you have plenty of places to begin your ascent to the top. If you’re a wheelchair user, the summit car park offers excellent views and there’s wheelchair access for the cafe.

    Hiking

The Great Orme is a beautiful little spot and makes for a great walk from the town below up to the headland. Great views across towards Anglesey and the foothills of the Carneddau range.

However you get to the top, car, hike, cable car, the summit is somewhere for all, with a cafe, an information centre, good views, a shop, and even a crazy golf course.

Luckily we let Komoot plan our tour. Between the streets and paths, the paths in the countryside are barely visible. So we had a nice hike through the moor, through …
