The Sentiero Natura Val Falcina Nature Trail offers an easy hike through charming environments within the Belluno Dolomites National Park. This route covers 2.8 miles (4.5 km) with an elevation gain of 749 feet (228 metres), and you can expect to complete it in about 1 hour and 31 minutes. As you follow the forest paths, you will discover scenic viewpoints overlooking the turquoise waters of Lago del Mis, and pass by wooden cabins at Pian Falcina, experiencing the plant landscape found at medium altitude.
To begin your hike, head to the Punto Ristoro Val Falcina, where free parking is available. The trail is easily accessible from the SS 203 road to Mas; simply follow directions toward Valle del Mis and park at Pian della Falcina. The route includes two river fords where you might get your feet wet, so plan your footwear accordingly. This trail provides a peaceful escape into nature, making it a great option for a relaxed outing.
This nature trail is notable for its focus on education, with information boards along the route providing insights into the geology, botany, and wildlife of the area. You will traverse mixed woodlands where the stream creates beautiful views of Lago del Mis and the steep surrounding mountains, including Monte Pizzocco. The highlight for many is reaching the river crossing area, where small waterfalls cascade over limestone rocks, forming natural pools.
