    Hiking

Fall Run Trail is located in the Park of the same name and follows the local creek. The biggest part of the trail leads over wooden boardwalks with stairs and multiple bridges as it crosses the water multiple times. Expect to see nice waterfalls as the water cascades down the rocky walls.

The Fall Run Trail offers a delightful escape into nature, winding along Fall Run Creek through a shaded ravine just outside Pittsburgh. You'll navigate a mostly smooth dirt path, interspersed with charming wooden boardwalks and bridges, leading you to the impressive Fall Run Falls. The lush, streamside scenery and the sound of cascading water create a tranquil atmosphere, making it feel like a true hidden gem.

This easy 1.5-mile (2.5 km) hike, with a gentle 129 feet (39 metres) of elevation gain, takes approximately 40 minutes, making it perfect for a quick outing. It's a fantastic option for families and is notably dog-friendly, allowing leashed pets to enjoy the natural beauty alongside you. The trail is accessible year-round, with spring offering vibrant waterfalls and summer inviting adventurous creek walks.

What truly sets this trail apart is Fall Run Falls, recognized as the largest waterfall near downtown Pittsburgh, standing between 15 and 30 feet tall. Beyond the main falls, you'll discover smaller cascades and even a natural rock waterslide for the more adventurous. It's a rewarding experience that feels much more remote than its close proximity to the city suggests.
