Embark on an easy 2.8-mile (4.5 km) hike through Forest Park, gaining 517 feet (157 metres) in elevation over approximately 1 hour and 23 minutes. This loop immerses you in a lush, temperate rainforest, where mossy trees and dense ferns create a serene atmosphere. As you follow the winding switchbacks of the Wildwood Trail, you'll eventually reach the historic Stone House, also known as Witch's Castle. The route continues along the tranquil Upper Macleay Trail, leading you towards the grand Pittock Mansion. From the mansion, you can enjoy sweeping panoramic views of downtown Portland and, on clear days, the majestic Mount Hood.

You will find this trail easily accessible, with parking generally available near the trailheads. There is no fee or permit required to hike in Forest Park to Pittock Mansion, making it a convenient option for a spontaneous outing. If you are bringing your canine companion, dogs are welcome on these trails. Some starting points, such as Lower Macleay Park, offer restrooms and picnic shelters for your convenience.

This popular loop offers a rewarding experience for most fitness levels, combining natural beauty with historical landmarks. The trail is a fantastic way to experience the unique temperate rainforest ecosystem of the Pacific Northwest. It provides a quick escape into nature without venturing far from the city, making it a local favorite for both exercise and sightseeing. The blend of woodland paths and a historic estate viewpoint sets this route apart in the region.
