Embark on an easy hike along the Tlingit Trail, a gentle 1.1-mile (1.8 km) route that winds through a lush temperate rainforest. You will experience minimal elevation gain, climbing just 20 feet (6 metres) over approximately 27 minutes, making it a perfect short outing. As you follow the path, you will catch glimpses of the water along the southern shore of Bartlett Cove, where salt marsh transitions into beach meadow.
This trail is considered easy and is suitable for most ability levels, including families. The path is a dirt trail, so be prepared for roots, rocks, and potentially muddy sections, especially given Southeast Alaska's often wet climate. Sturdy shoes with good traction are highly recommended to ensure a comfortable experience on the varied terrain.
Beyond its natural beauty, the Tlingit Trail offers a unique insight into the rich cultural heritage of the Tlingit people. Keep an eye out for significant landmarks like the Healing Totem Pole and the Sea Otter Canoe, which are integral to the region's history and traditions. This route provides a wonderful opportunity to connect with both the environment and the cultural legacy of Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve.
