    Hiking

Enjoy this one of several Aspen groves that you will pass through during your hike here at Snowbowl. Though each tree appears to be a different living creature, the entire collection of trees is connected via an elaborate root system, making this Aspen grove one of the largest living organisms in this vast wilderness area.

    80m

Step onto the Aspen Nature Loop and discover a diverse landscape, moving from open fields into shaded aspen groves and pine forests. This easy hike offers expansive views of the majestic San Francisco Peaks and the surrounding volcanic field. You will cover 1.6 miles (2.6 km) with a gentle elevation gain of 265 feet (81 metres), typically taking around 46 minutes to complete. It is a perfect choice for a quick and accessible outdoor experience.

To begin your hike, head to the trailhead located at Arizona Snowbowl, where you will find ample parking available. Keep in mind that the starting elevation is around 9,271 feet, so the air might feel thinner if you are not used to high altitudes. The trail is especially popular during autumn for its spectacular golden aspen colors, so expect more visitors if you plan your trip in the fall.

Beyond the changing scenery, the route also provides a glimpse of the Arizona Trail Intersection. During the warmer months, you might spot various bird species and wildflowers along the path. This loop is a notable example of the Coconino National Forest's varied ecosystems, offering a peaceful escape into nature.
