The Palau de Justícia in Barcelona was built between 1887 and 1908 on Passeig de Lluís Companys according to the plans of architects Enric Sagnier and Josep Domènech i Estapà. The monumental eclecticism building combines neoclassical and modernist elements and stands out with its powerful dome and rich sculptural decoration. To this day, the palace serves as the seat of important courts in Catalonia, including the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (Tribunal Superior de Justícia de Catalunya).

The Palace of Justice was one of the first public buildings in Barcelona designed with a monumental character, following the University of Barcelona. It was built on an isolated plot to match the scale of the expanding Eixample district.

With its eight towers and large domes, the building has the imposing look of a fortress, reinforcing the idea of justice as strong and unyielding. The towers also feature shields of Catalonia’s four provinces.
