The Vosburgh Red and Blue Trail Loop offers a delightful blend of open grasslands and intimate wooded sections alongside the Normans Kill. You'll start on wide, flat paths through fields, then transition to the Blue Trail which dips into a ravine and climbs wooded slopes, providing picturesque creek views from strategically placed benches. It's a journey that feels much longer than its actual distance, with varied scenery keeping things interesting.
This easy 3.5-mile (5.6 km) hike, with a gentle 134 feet (41 metres) of elevation gain, typically takes about 1 hour and 27 minutes. The trail is well-marked and accessible from multiple trailheads on Vosburgh Road, Millingstone Way, and French's Mill Road, all with kiosks for information. It's a dog-friendly route, just remember to keep your furry friend on a leash.
Part of the larger Vosburgh Trails system, this loop provides a fantastic opportunity to observe local wildlife and birds, especially near the Normans Kill. The town has actively worked to clear thick brush, ensuring a pleasant nature experience. It's a notable example of accessible hiking within town-owned open space, connecting you to the natural beauty of Albany County.
