    Hiking

The Breakwater Cafe (used to be called Sonas) serves all of the usual cafe food with a more resturaunt style menu in the evenings. Great views across the harbour especially in the dark.

    Hiking

The coffee shop is called Sonas. Before or after the hike to the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse you can strengthen yourself here. The café is very lovingly designed and offers a delicious selection of cakes, even gluten-free and lactose-free!

One of the few restaurants in the area, great pizza, also available for takeaway.

There isn't a lot of space, but it's worth a try; they'll do their best to accommodate you.

Embark on a moderate hiking journey around the Butt of Lewis, covering 8.7 miles (14.0 km) with an elevation gain of 380 feet (116 metres). This route offers dramatic, exposed cliff-top scenery and expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean. You will pass the iconic red-brick Butt of Lewis Lighthouse, a significant landmark marking the UK's windiest spot, and enjoy sections along sandy beaches like Eoropie and Port Stoth. The estimated duration for this hike is 3 hours and 41 minutes, providing ample time to soak in the wild coastal atmosphere.

When planning your visit, remember that this trail is not recommended on very windy days due to the exposed cliff edges, which can be unstable. Sure-footedness is essential, especially along the cliff tops. Parking is readily available in Port of Ness, offering convenient access to the start of the loop. Consider checking local weather conditions before you set out to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on the northern tip of the Isle of Lewis.

This hike is excellent for wildlife spotting, as you can look forward to seeing diverse seabirds nesting on the cliffs. Along the sandy beaches, you might even spot seals enjoying the coastal environment. The Butt of Lewis is a unique natural area, known for its rugged beauty and as a haven for marine life, making this route a memorable way to connect with the raw power of the Atlantic.
