This neoclassical building is the largest religious building in Mahon. After many unsuccessful attempts, the English government, which ruled the island, gave the Carmelite order permission to build its own church and monastery. Construction began in 1750 but was not completed until 60 years later. Its dome vault with a lantern in the dome is outstanding. The monastery and a cloister were built at the same time as the church. Today it houses the market hall with its stalls where you can buy fresh and typical products of the island.

Another church in the historic center of Mao, not far from the Santa-Maria Church. Both are imposing for this small city center and even seem excessive. Note the pretty square with sculpture in front of the Del Carmen Church and especially the market which takes place in the cloister, open every day until 1 p.m.
