Embark on the Monte Sumbra Loop Trail, a difficult 9.8-mile (15.7 km) hike that challenges you with 3785 feet (1154 metres) of elevation gain. You should set aside about 7 hours and 30 minutes to complete this demanding journey. The route takes you through diverse terrain, from grassy sections to rocky ridges, offering superb views of the Alpi Apuane. Look out for the large marble slab at Passo di Fiocca and enjoy expansive vistas of Lake Vagli from the crest trail. You will also discover the charming and mysterious Bosco del Fatonero, adding a unique atmosphere to your adventure.
This difficult trail requires very good physical fitness and sure-footedness, so come prepared with sturdy hiking shoes. Be aware that some sections are highly technical or hazardous, especially during winter months when ice can make path 144 extremely dangerous. Specialist equipment and prior alpine experience are essential for your safety on this route. Always check conditions before you go.
