    Hiking

Here on the beautiful Lahneralm you can treat yourself to the refreshment you deserve after a hike through the impressive Bletterbach Gorge. We opted for the fried potatoes with fried eggs and bacon. Just the thing after our adventurous hike through the Bletterbach Gorge.

    390m

Discover the unique landscape of the Bletterbach Gorge Geological Trail, a moderate hike that takes you deep into a dramatic canyon. This route covers 6.0 miles (9.7 km) with an elevation gain of 1280 feet (390 metres), typically taking around 3 hours and 4 minutes to complete. You'll navigate along the stream bed, surrounded by impressive canyon walls and passing through peaceful forest sections. Keep an eye out for the majestic Corno Bianco mountain, which provides a stunning backdrop to your journey.

Plan your visit between early May and late October, as the trail is generally accessible during these months. It is essential to wear sturdy, waterproof shoes, as you will be walking on river gravel and wet rocks, and crossing the stream. Helmets are compulsory for safety within the gorge due to potential rockfall; you can pick one up for free at the Bletterbach Geopark Visitor Center before you start your adventure.

This trail offers a fascinating journey through millions of years of Earth's history, earning its nickname as the "Grand Canyon of South Tyrol." As you explore, you'll see colorful rock layers and might even spot ancient fossils embedded in the canyon walls. The Bletterbach Gorge is a designated GEOPARC, making it a significant site for understanding geological processes and natural heritage.
