    Hiking

Hut reachable with an easy but long walk from the Terme di Valdieri, and being in the Maritime Alps, dogs are allowed but strictly on a leash. Many wild animals can be encountered such as roe deer, ibex, deer, chamois etc... which do not seem at all frightened by the presence of humans, they are often found on the paths and almost let themselves be approached. The peculiarity of the hut is that to reduce the environmental impact, for the supply of food, drinks and some materials they use the most ecological mules rifugiomorellibuzzi.com/muli

It is not difficult to arrive at Morelli Buzzi and be greeted by the sound of the accordions that Paolo, the manager, creates in his workshop in Valdieri. A warm, priceless atmosphere!

Embark on the difficult 9.2 miles (14.8 km) hike to Rifugio Morelli Buzzi, a journey that takes approximately 6 hours and 52 minutes and climbs 3228 feet (984 metres). You'll start with a brief paved section from Terme di Valdieri, quickly transitioning to a path that crosses a torrent via a wooden walkway. The route then follows a comfortable mule track through shaded woods of beech and conifer, gradually changing to larch and fir as you gain altitude. As you ascend, the path becomes stonier, with scree and large boulders, leading you to picturesque views of Lagarot di Lourousa, where the rock faces of Monte Matto reflect in the tranquil pools.

Prepare for a challenging hike that demands good fitness and sure-footedness, especially as the path becomes steeper and stonier past Lagarot di Lourousa. While the initial hour of ascent is technically elementary on a wide path with gentle slopes, the overall route involves a significant climb. The refuge itself is situated at 2,351 metres in the Vallone di Lourousa, suggesting a remote location. Be aware that the trail involves scree and large boulders in higher sections, and occasional rockslides can occur.

Rifugio Morelli Buzzi holds historical significance as the oldest CAI refuge in Cuneo, established in 1931. Situated away from typical tourist crowds, it offers an authentic experience immersed in pristine nature. The refuge is committed to sustainability, powering its operations primarily through solar panels and a water turbine, and most provisions are transported by mules. It also serves as a crucial point along long-distance trekking routes like the Grande Traversata delle Alpi (GTA) and the Via Alpina.
