    Hiking

Inserted in the fantastic setting of the Vallone dell’Inferno, where the peaks of Monte la Nuda and the Gendarme reign supreme, the "Bivacco Rosario" has four beds, furnishings, and a nearby spring.

Bivacco Rosario and Monte La Nuda dal Passo del Cerreto — Loop hike

Embark on the challenging Bivacco Rosario and Monte La Nuda dal Passo del Cerreto loop hike, a classic route in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. This difficult 5.4 miles (8.6 km) loop, taking around 4 hours and 11 minutes to complete, features a significant 2282 feet (696 metres) of elevation gain. You will begin on a dirt road before entering a beech forest, where the path becomes steeper and stonier, passing through areas of ancient landslides. As you ascend, the trail emerges into the dramatic Vallone dell'Inferno, a wide glacial cirque, before a final steep climb to the summit of Monte La Nuda. From the top, enjoy expansive panoramas that can stretch to the Ligurian Sea, Corsica, and the Alps on clear days.

Starting from Passo del Cerreto, this hike requires good physical conditioning due to its significant elevation gain and varied terrain. The descent from Monte La Nuda towards Bivacco Rosario can be steep initially, crossing a glacial moraine. If you plan to hike in winter, be aware that the descent from Sella della Nuda can be particularly challenging and may require specialized winter equipment. The Bivacco Rosario itself is a small, fixed shelter with four beds and a nearby spring, offering a unique resting spot along the route.

This trail is nestled within the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park, highlighting its natural beauty and ecological importance. The hike takes you through the rugged Vallone dell'Inferno, known for its dramatic glacial formations and wild character. Monte La Nuda, at 1895 metres, is a prominent peak offering exceptional panoramic views and features the remains of a former military radio station. Keep an eye out for wildlife, as the area is known for its wind-swept landscapes and the presence of mouflon herds.
