Hidden in a residential area in Fischenich are the ruins of a hillside castle from the 12th or 13th century. It was probably destroyed by the French in the 18th century and from then on it remained as a ruien.
The construction of Roman canal elements in the castle wall is interesting. These opus caementitium pieces can be seen very clearly in the shield wall. The castle was near the Roman canal from Nettesheim to Cologne.
The castle can be accessed directly via Augustinerstrasse.

The 12/13 Fischenich Castle, built in the 18th century, is the ruin of a hilltop castle on the foothills in the Fischenich district of Hürth. The ruins of the Hangburg are the remainder of the oldest preserved castle complex among the numerous fortifications of the foothills between Cologne and Bonn. It represents one of the most important examples of high medieval castle construction in the Rhineland. The castle wall was at least partially built from cast concrete blocks from the Roman aqueduct that ran near the foot of the foothills. Source: huerth.de/fischenich.php
