    Hiking

The Seytes hamlet, inhabited by shepherds, was definitively abandoned in 1923. In 1925 the shepherd Bergero bought houses and pastures, transforming it into a pasture where butter, cheeses and "Sairas del fen" (a ricotta seasoned in hay) were produced. In 1944 the Germans, during a roundup against the partisans, set it on fire but the shepherds continued to use it until 1987.

A small village within the Val Troncea natural park, with a few houses and many ruins. In summer, along the path that comes from the Troncea refuge, it is possible to meet many nice marmots.

Seytes, an ancient hamlet now abandoned in the Val Troncea Natural Park, was once lively with the production of dairy products. Now, among the ruins, you can meet curious marmots.

Embark on the Val Troncea Loop Trail, a moderate hike that takes you through a diverse landscape. You will follow pleasant valley-floor paths alongside the Chisone stream before ascending into higher alpine environments. The scenery changes from grassy areas and woodlands to rugged rock walls, revealing the park's distinctive U-shaped valley. Keep an eye out for the historic Seytes Ruins as you hike this 6.0-mile (9.6 km) route. With an elevation gain of 1113 feet (339 metres), the loop typically takes around 3 hours and 1 minute to complete, offering a rewarding experience.

Planning your visit to the Val Troncea Loop Trail is straightforward, as the paths are well-marked for easy navigation. You can usually find parking available at the trailheads, making access convenient. While much of the route is accessible, be aware that some sections might require you to be sure-footed. In winter, the park also offers opportunities for snowshoeing, though certain routes to mountain huts, like Mulino di Laval, can still be managed with just hiking boots.

This trail explores the Parco Naturale della Val Troncea, a region celebrated for its unique U-shaped valley profile. The area is particularly known for its vibrant alpine flora, earning it the nickname "valley of flowers" during warmer months. As you hike, you will experience a natural environment where diverse ecosystems meet, from lush valley floors to rugged high-alpine terrain, making it a distinctive natural gem in the region.

Embark on the Val Troncea Loop Trail, a moderate hiking route that takes you deep into the Parco Naturale della Val Troncea. This 8.4-mile (13.6 km) journey involves a steady climb of 1689 feet (515 metres), typically completed in about 4 hours and 45 minutes. As you hike, you will pass through dense larch and stone pine forests, which eventually open up to expansive high-altitude pastures. Keep an eye out for the historic Seytes Ruins, offering a glimpse into the area's past, and enjoy panoramic views of rugged rock walls and diverse Alpine flora.

This route is generally accessible year-round, making it a great option for hiking during the summer months. If you plan to visit in winter, you can enjoy snowshoeing on groomed trails, but always check local conditions before you go, as the landscape transforms significantly with snow. Parking is usually available close to the trailheads, making it convenient to start your adventure.

The trail follows the Chisone stream, which has carved a distinctive U-shaped path through the valley, a clear sign of ancient glacial activity. This natural park, nestled in the stunning Cottian Alps of Piedmont, Italy, offers a rewarding experience for anyone looking to explore a unique mountain environment. You will find a rich variety of plant life and geological features that make this loop particularly notable in the region.

Embark on the difficult Il Sentiero degli Alpini loop, a challenging hike through the Parco Naturale della Val Troncea. This route spans 8.6 miles (13.8 km) and demands a significant 3849 feet (1173 metres) of elevation gain, typically requiring about 7 hours and 1 minute to complete. You will traverse diverse alpine terrain, from dense larch and stone pine forests to open meadows, with dramatic rock walls descending towards the Chisone stream. A particularly memorable section is carved into the rock face beneath the Ruetas peak, offering an airy experience.

Planning your visit requires good fitness, sure-footedness, and sturdy shoes, along with some alpine experience. The path includes a long mule track, and while a section beneath the Ruetas peak had a landslide in 2021, it has been safely restored with robust wooden walkways and cables. However, you should still exercise caution and avoid this specific part of the trail in snowy or icy conditions.

What makes this trail truly special is its historical significance as an old military road, built by the Italian mountain troops (Alpini) in the late 1800s. As you hike, you will discover glimpses of ancient mines and other historical elements, adding a cultural layer to the natural beauty. The route leads to panoramic viewpoints like Monte Morefreddo and Colle dell'Arcano, allowing you to appreciate the rich landscapes, flora, and fauna, including marmots, chamois, ibex, and eagles, within this well-preserved alpine park.
