Embark on a moderate 6.4-mile (10.2 km) hike from Sestriere, gaining 2166 feet (660 metres) over approximately 4 hours and 15 minutes. This route guides you through the Vallone del Chisonetto, where the landscape transforms from ski slopes into wild alpine terrain. You will follow CAI trail 613, marked with red and white signs, as you ascend towards the rocky summit of Monte Rognosa, eventually reaching the peaceful Laghetto del Chisonetto with its emerald waters.
To begin this journey, head to Sestriere's village center, which is easily accessible by car. You can reach Sestriere via the A32 highway or by following the SP23R if you are coming from Pinerolo. This convenient access makes it simple to start your adventure into the Piedmont Alps.
As you hike, you will discover the unique natural environment of the Piedmont Alps, moving beyond the developed ski resort into a secluded corner. The path follows the valley's natural contours, passing the Sorgenti del Chisonetto where mountain springs emerge. The highlight is the serene Laghetto del Chisonetto, a mountain lake fed by a stream, offering a perfect spot for a break before the trail continues its climb toward Passo Banchetta, revealing panoramic views of Val Troncea.
