The courthouse at Clara-Zetkin-Straße 14 (currently the branch office) dates back to the German Empire. It is a listed brick building from 1894, erected as a district court. From 2018 to 2020, it was extensively renovated (costing approx. 2.85 million euros); the former prison now houses, among other things, the land registry office. Until 2015, there was a branch office at Neues Weg 19. The Malchin branch (since 1998) was dissolved in 2009.

The name „Rote Schule“ comes from the striking red brick building. It was built in 1894/1895 as a town boys' school, and was inaugurated on January 3, 1896. The predecessor was a boys' school that had already been founded in 1736 and stood at Klinkenberg. Due to the city's growth during the foundation period, a new building was decided upon in 1892; the first spade of earth was turned in October 1893. On November 7, 1962, the school was named after the Low German poet Fritz Reuter.

From 1795, the cemetery received a new boundary wall. Burials took place again from approx. 1800 to 1846 (or until 1883 according to municipal information). In 1797, the octagonal pavilion was built as a burial chapel – the central point to this day. Well-known surviving tombs: Gravestone of the Lobeck merchant family (Jürgen Peter Lobeck and Salome Charlotte), designed in 1815 by Johann Gottfried Schadow. Muhrbeck stele for the doctors Ketil Johann and Julius Gustav Lorenz Muhrbeck, who rendered services in combating cholera.

The so-called Zille House used to stand at this spot. Margarete Köhler-Zille (1884–1977) lived there, the daughter of the famous Berlin draftsman, graphic artist, and photographer Heinrich Zille (1858–1929, known as “Pinselheinrich”). There is a bust of Heinrich Zille, an information board, benches, and trees in the square. It commemorates the former resident and the family connection to the artist.

The stone city fortifications (ring of fieldstone city walls) with originally four gates were built after 1325, i.e. in the first half of the 14th century. It was closely related to the Loitz Castle (first mentioned in 1314 as "slot" or "hus loitz"), which had been built on an older Slavic rampart on the Peene and was already well fortified.
