We had a lot of wind that day. And the wind blows very strongly along the route of the circumnavigation.

Because the weather is always great year-round, this is my 14th trip and I love it, and Playa de las Conchas on La Graciosa is the most beautiful and popular beach in the Canary Islands. That's true, but the walk there from the port is quite strenuous. However, once you know what awaits you, it's all forgotten. My tip if you want to try it: take the first ferry from Orzola (Lanzarote) to La Graciosa at 8:00 AM. You'll arrive there at 8:30 AM. Then go to one of the small supermarkets and get drinks, filled baguettes, etc., put them in your backpack, and off you go, always along the coast. You'll be surprised how peaceful the world can be because, apart from the waves and the wind, you hear nothing else. If that isn't relaxation, I don't know what is. If you also take a towel, you can lie down in one of the numerous bays on the way to Playa de las Conchas and linger for a while, enjoying the scenery, and then continue your walk. You won't be disappointed.

The trail is easy to follow. The beauty and uniqueness of the landscape are well presented over a few kilometers. Unfortunately, the information boards have been worn down by the ravages of time and are partially illegible.

An impressive, extinct volcano that you can walk around and even go inside.

Lanzarote's unique volcanic landscape provides an otherworldly backdrop for family hikes. You can expect trails through ancient lava fields, around volcanic craters, and along dramatic coastlines. Many paths are well-trodden, often covered in volcanic ash or gravel, making them relatively easy to navigate for families.
Yes, several family-friendly circular routes allow you to start and end at the same point. A great option is the Caldera of the Crows – Montaña del Cuervo loop from Caldera de los Cuervos Parking. This easy 4.2 km trail takes you through volcanic ash and even allows you to walk inside the crater of Volcán El Cuervo, offering a truly unique experience for all ages.
Lanzarote is rich in natural wonders. On your family hikes, you might encounter impressive volcanic craters like Caldera Blanca or Volcán El Cuervo, dramatic coastal cliffs, and unique agricultural zones like the La Geria wine region where vines grow in volcanic ash. The island's volcanic origins are visible everywhere, creating stunning and memorable scenery.
The cooler months, from October to April, are ideal for family hiking in Lanzarote. During this period, the weather is mild and pleasant, allowing for comfortable outdoor activities without the intense heat of summer. This makes it perfect for exploring the volcanic landscapes and coastal paths with children.
Absolutely! Many trails in Lanzarote offer breathtaking sea views. For a coastal experience, consider exploring parts of the island that lead to secluded coves or dramatic cliffs. While not listed in the provided routes, the general coastal areas, especially around Papagayo Beach or the Famara cliffs, are known for their stunning ocean vistas.
While many natural areas in Lanzarote are dog-friendly, it's always best to check specific regulations for national parks or protected areas like Timanfaya. Generally, on less restricted trails, dogs are welcome, but should be kept on a leash. Ensure you bring enough water for your pet, especially on volcanic trails where shade can be limited.
For families with older children looking for a bit more adventure, the La Graciosa – south coast to Montaña Amarilla route offers a moderate challenge. This 11.4 km trail on the nearby island of La Graciosa provides stunning coastal views and a sense of exploration. Another option is the Tremesana Route, a moderate 8.6 km hike that offers insights into the island's geological history.
The komoot community highly rates hiking in Lanzarote, with an average score of 4.45 stars. Reviewers often praise the unique, 'otherworldly' volcanic landscapes, the well-maintained paths, and the stunning contrasts between the black volcanic rock and the bright blue ocean. The sense of adventure and discovery, even on easier trails, is frequently highlighted.
While the provided routes don't specifically highlight volcanic tubes, the region research indicates that the La Corona Volcano Path features volcanic tubes. Exploring these geological formations can be a fascinating experience for families, offering a glimpse into the island's fiery past. Always check local guidelines for access and safety.
Many popular trailheads in Lanzarote, especially those around volcanic sites like Caldera de los Cuervos, offer dedicated parking areas. For some routes, particularly those within protected areas, public transport might be limited, so having a car can be beneficial for flexibility. Always check the starting point of your chosen route for specific parking information.
While Lanzarote's volcanic landscape might seem barren, it is home to unique flora and fauna. Coastal walks, especially those leading to secluded beaches or cliffs, can be good for spotting seabirds. Keep an eye out for endemic plant species that thrive in the volcanic soil. The island of La Graciosa, accessible by ferry, also offers a more pristine natural environment for observation.
