Caldera of the Crows

Highlight • Volcano

The Caldera de Los Cuervos stands out for its characteristic profile with irregular edges. In the past, inadequate use was made of its slopes, both to extract pyroclasts for agriculture and construction, and to obtain olivine (green stone used for jewelry). Once at the base of the cone you can comfortably access the interior of the caldera, surrounded by steep dark edges on which only a few rumexes grow.

It's crazy when you consider that this landscape was only created by volcanic eruptions in 1730.

There is a well-equipped parking area. The views towards Timanfaya are very beautiful, and the entrance to the crater is spectacular.

February 27, 2022,Ins "Auge" des Vulkans (Cuervo)
Actually, there should be two volcanoes today. The Cuervo, which can be explored practically at ground level, and a circuit around another. Of course, I had underestimated that on the plateau at 300 m with an overcast sky and wind force 5 to 6 it feels significantly cooler than the measured 17° C. I shivered in the wind and the …

From a hiking parking lot on the LZ56, you walk along an ash path to the Caldera de los Cuervos, a spectacular volcanic crater. Along the path through the volcanic landscape that was formed by the eruptions of Timanfaja in 1730-1736, there are information boards about the volcano and the surrounding area. The path leads into the interior of the …

Contrary to many comments, it is not possible to climb to the crater rim, although some people have tried. It is forbidden. Additionally, some people litter the lava fields with tissues.
Take your shit back with you, otherwise you won't be able to enjoy this great destination any more. It was already super crowded.

The Caldera de los Cuervos is visible even from the road, sparking a desire to explore it. The hiking trail is easy, but the wind is very strong. The path also leads into the crater, and the walk around it is interesting as well.
