Popular around Eksjö
Eksjö itself received city rights as early as 1403 and was a garrison town from the end of the 15th century. Today, the garrison, with 600 employees, is the third largest public employer after the hospital with 1,700 and the city administration with 1,200 employees. Eksjö is known for its unique wooden house architecture. The old town still corresponds to the medieval town plan and, with its historic wooden houses, is almost entirely a protected monument. In 1997, Eksjö was awarded the Europa Nostra Diploma for the preservation of the old town. However, on August 16, 2015, the largest building in the old town was destroyed in a fire.[2] Due to its role as a garrison town and its well-preserved wooden house architecture, the city is today classified as being of Swedish national interest. Unlike many similar historic towns, Eksjö was largely spared the major waves of modernization that swept through Sweden after World War II. In 1997, Eksjö was awarded the Europa Nostra Diploma for its excellent management of architectural and cultural heritage due to its excellent state of preservation.

The current church is built in the neoclassical style and features stone and brick walls, plastered and painted yellow. Entrances are located in the middle of the north and south sides of the nave, and on the west side through the tower. To the east of the church is a circular chancel, which houses the sacristy. The church tower has an open, white-painted wooden lantern crowned by a gilded cross. The church's roof was originally covered with iron sheets. In 1970, the rusted sheets were replaced with painted aluminum sheets. This roofing material was completely new for churches, so Rumskulla Church became an experimental church. The aim was to make the sheets as similar to iron sheets as possible. Source: wikipedia.org
