"The postcard" of La Rochelle but the city center is clearly not recommended, especially for road bikes.... Very busy, too busy.... Ruined roads, unsuitable cycle paths, lots of construction work.....

https://maps.app.goo.gl/RggbW911DEZ9SVos5 Marans maybe doesn’t sit directly on the Velodyssee route— but it pulls you visiting the charming calm and cozy village...and especially THIS café. Elodie knows what bikepacker needs. Cyclists more than welcome here: bikes rest easy, bellies get happy. Elodie asked directly for free water to refill bike bottles, WiFi, charging of phone, laptop etc. A must-stop gem right in the village core 🚴♀️☕️💛 good café, shakes with different milks, fresh sandwiches, toasts, local sweets

Long before the discovery of electricity and the associated inventions, our ancestors discovered the possibility of harnessing the power of the elements—which, while useful on the one hand, could also be a threat as a force of nature—for various purposes. A fitting example of the human inventiveness of earlier generations is such a mill: The heavy millstones used to grind grain or press oil, for example, could be powered by water or—as in this case—the wind. Hardly any of them still fulfill their original functions today, but fortunately, some have at least survived as testimonies to ancient times.
