The town of Schloß Neuhaus is located at the confluence of the rivers Lippe, Alme, and Pader. Schloß Neuhaus (known as "Neuhaus" until 1957) was first mentioned in a document in 1036 in the founding charter of Bishop Meinwerk for the collegiate church of St. Petrus and St. Andreas (Busdorf) in Paderborn. Its favorable location at the confluence of three rivers encouraged early settlement. A place of worship in Neuhaus was first mentioned in 1437. The first patron saint was St. Ulrich. In 1532, there was a pastor in the parishes of Elsen and Neuhaus who likely held both positions. On August 26, 1582, the cathedral chapter requested a new priest from the prince-bishop for the vacant parish position in Neuhaus. The first pastor in Neuhaus mentioned by name was Johannes Forsterus (Förster) in 1598. From 1650 to 1661, Bishop Dietrich Adolf von der Recke planned the construction of a Franciscan monastery at the St. Ulrich Church in Neuhaus. In 1665, the old parish church with 200 seats was too small, and Bishop Ferdinand von Fürstenberg had a new church built by 1668. The architect was likely Ambrosius von Oelde. The substructure of the tower from the old church was preserved. The new church was consecrated to Emperor Henry II and his wife Kunigunde. Ulrich has remained a secondary patron saint to this day. A comprehensive church renovation took place in 1803. From 1934 to 1936, the church was expanded. The old 3/6 choir was demolished, and the church received a transept and a choir with a 5/8 closure. The new choir closure was kept in a Gothic style. At the same time, the tower was heightened. In 1956 and 1957, the baroque interior of the church was restored and the interior was repainted. Further renovations followed in 1973, 1975, and 1983. In 1993 and 1994, the foundations of the nave were reinforced with 4-meter-deep concrete bases. The vaults with sandstone ribs were renovated. Further extensive restoration and renovation work was carried out until 2010. The steps to the altar and the altar area were expanded and now offer new possibilities for liturgical design. The new baptismal area was laid out in the form of an octagon. The new color scheme was applied based on the original state.

He was canonized by Pope Benedict XIII in 1729. The Jesuits made him their second patron saint in 1732. Nepomuk is considered the patron saint of bridges and the seal of the confessional.

After about 5 km, the Pader flows into the Lippe. The view is somewhat overgrown, but still fairly clear from the bridge.
