The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Dionysius is a listed church building in Elsen, a district of Paderborn in the district of Paderborn in North Rhine-Westphalia. The church building and parish office belong to the pastoral association Elsen-Wewer-Borchen, which is subordinate to the deanery of Paderborn in the Archdiocese of Paderborn. No reliable founding date for a parish or a consecration date for a church building can be determined from documents. The parish was first mentioned in a document in 1231, but it is considered certain that a parish existed in Elsen long before this date. Not least due to the structural substance and the fact that St. Dionysius was chosen as the patron saint, it can be assumed that this is one of the oldest parishes in the Bishopric of Paderborn. The church was the mother church of the communities of Neuhaus and Sande.

The former hunting lodge of Prince-Bishop Dietrich Adolph von der Recke is a listed building and is now owned by the Catholic parish of St. Johannes Nepomuk. The historic half-timbered building is now a Hövelhof landmark and a popular photo backdrop. The castle gardens are a great place to linger. The Hövelhof Tourist Information and the Ems Cycle Path office are located in the adjacent building.

The Ems Information Center marks the starting point of the popular Ems Cycle Path, which runs approximately 385 km from Hövelhof in the Senne River to Emden on the North Sea. The exhibition aims to inspire anticipation of the beautiful landscapes cyclists will traverse along the Ems River, and the multitude of sights that are worth getting off their bikes for. Visitors receive information about the tourist attractions and experience the highlights along the Ems River before embarking on a trip. The information center vividly describes the Ems' source region, particularly the Ems's unique characteristics as seepage springs, which flow continuously throughout the year. Visitors can experience the Ems itself in a model or accompany a ship from the famous Meyer shipyard in Papenburg through the Ems barrage toward the North Sea.

The beer garden definitely scores points with its beautiful location, and the moderately busy road can be easily ignored. You can also stay overnight here, but I haven't seen my room yet because the kitchen closes at 9 p.m. and eating is a priority after the long journey. So far: everything's been good, I like it!
