Saint John Nepomuk was a priest (Vicar General to the Archbishop) in Bohemia who was martyred in Prague in 1393. He was thrown from the Charles Bridge in Prague into the Vltava River by royal order and drowned. His statue can still be found on or near many bridges today – including here at the entrance to Eicks Water Castle. He is not only considered a popular "bridge saint" but is also the patron saint of the seal of confession. In many depictions of him, he holds a cross in one hand, and sometimes places a finger to his lips with the other as a sign of silence (about what was heard during confession). The feast day of Saint John Nepomuk in the liturgical calendar is March 20.

I stumbled upon the former Jewish cemetery in Lechnich by chance. It lies between Erp and Weiler, along a farm track. Many gravestones are missing...

The Church of St. Mary's Assumption dates back to 1649, at least the tower does. There are no traces of a church mentioned as early as 1147. The west-facing part dates from the 18th century. The hall building dates from 1724.

A chapel in Sievernich was first mentioned in 1208, but it was demolished in 1869, and construction of a new church began that same year. This church was consecrated in 1873. The church is no longer a parish church and has been merged with several other churches in and around Vettweiß.
