Renaturation of the Gera Floodplain

Highlight (Segment) • River

Looks quite appropriate given the current water levels. But they are too narrow for flood events on the Gera like in 2013. The bridges in Gebesee over the Gera and Mahlgera are to be rebuilt. Planning is in progress and takes time. Current information on flood protection is available at blickpunkt-geraue.de

Dr. Oskar Moses Memorial Grove

Highlight • Monument

November 1938 in Leipzig.

This is where the prince is buried - the owner of the Nebra Sky Disk. It is worth visiting the museum in Nebra. The original is in the museum in Halle.

Unfortunately dogs are not allowed, so we had to turn around at the checkout. Very annoying, as it wasn't written anywhere before and dogs are less destructive than people!

The Chinese "Garden of Eternal Happiness" is undoubtedly a highlight that radiates beyond Weißensee and the country. Because it was not a Disneyland for those curious about the Far East that was built here, but an original, even if it is around 8,000 km as the crow flies from the country of origin. Planned and built for the Thuringian State Horticultural Show 2013. In order to guarantee the authenticity, the direction was taken over by a planning office from Shanghai. The building materials for the various temples came from China, along with the construction team. Finally, the Chinese Ambassador was the opening guest. A true-to-style total art object has been created, harmoniously fitting into the old town and the surrounding landscape. Conclusion: Must see!

Here, a dyke was strengthened with considerable effort. A sheet pile wall built 6 m deep into the ground is now in the dyke. In this way, floodwaters cannot penetrate to the site. So that the rainwater can flow out of the place, there is a new sewer - a collection basin with an outlet to the Mahlgera. A dike defense path was also built. There are still protective weirs in the plan, which block off the Mahlgera in the event of flooding, so that the flooding spreads to the areas outside and the place is protected. This island was created by measures taken by the Free State of Thuringia to improve the water ecology. The widened river bed and a branch allows the flowing water to create natural ramparts. The sandy slope was formed this year and two breeding tunnels of birds such as the kingfisher can already be seen. More information about the conversion and the family competition for river explorers is available at https://blickpunkt-geraue.de.
