August 25, 2026, Božídarské Rašeliniště Boardwalk

The Gottesgaber Torfmoor educational trail leads through the internationally important wetland of the Božídarské rašeliniště nature reserve. A large part of the path runs over wooden boardwalks – for the safety of visitors, but above all to protect the sensitive moor and its rare animal and plant species. Along the path, twelve information boards inform you about the nature of the moor, past peat extraction, geology, as well as typical animals and plants.

The Vřídlo hot spring is the most famous and strongest thermal spring in Karlovy Vary and is considered one of the city's landmarks. It is located in the historic city center in the Sprudel Colonnade and has played a central role in the spa tradition of Karlovy Vary for centuries. The water of the Vřídlo emerges from great depths to the surface and reaches a temperature of about 72 °C. Due to the high pressure, the thermal water can rise several meters high as an impressive fountain. The spring supplies large amounts of mineral-rich water, making it the most important thermal spring in the city. The water of the Vřídlo is traditionally used for the Karlovy Vary drinking cure. Several drinking fountains are available in the Sprudel Colonnade where visitors can try the thermal water. Due to the high natural temperature, the water is partially cooled for the drinking cure. The current Sprudel Colonnade was built in the 1970s and protects the spring as well as visitors. The Vřídlo is not only an important healing spring but also a special natural phenomenon and a symbol of the centuries-old spa history of Karlovy Vary. Due to its central location, the Vřídlo is an ideal starting point for a tour of the historic spa town. From here, St. Mary Magdalene Church, the Mühlbrunnen Colonnade, the Marktkolonnade, and other sights in the historic center can be easily reached on foot.

Vřídlo, also known as Sprudel or hot water spring, is the most famous and at the same time the most powerful thermal spring in Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad). It is located in the modern Sprudel Colonnade in the historic city center. The water emerges here at a temperature of about 72°C from a depth of around 2,000 meters, reaching a height of several meters. The Sprudel is the symbol of Karlovy Vary and plays an important role in the city's traditional spa culture. The mineral-rich thermal water of Vřídlo is primarily used for drinking cures in Karlovy Vary. In the Sprudel Colonnade, you can taste the water at several drinking points with different temperatures. Due to its high temperature, it is partially cooled before being drunk. The composition of the water contains various minerals and is traditionally used in Karlovy Vary spa treatments. The current Sprudel Colonnade was built between 1969 and 1975 and replaced earlier colonnades at the same location. Vřídlo is located directly in the center of Karlovy Vary and is therefore an ideal starting point for exploring the city's other sights and historic colonnades.

Since 1977, a 3.2-kilometer-long nature trail on wooden planks has led through the Božídarské rašeliniště peat bog nature reserve. It features twelve stations with information panels. The 11.61-square-kilometer area has been protected since 1965. It encompasses a series of raised bogs with spruce, pine, Scots pine, dwarf birch, heaths, and meadows. A carnivorous plant characteristic of peat bogs, the round-leaved sundew, also grows here. The largest peat bog in the Ore Mountains lies at an elevation of 940 to 1116 meters; its specific mountain climate creates challenging conditions for animals and plants.
