The Johanneskirche (today also: Alte Johanneskirche[1]) was built in 1658 as a church for the Lutheran community in Hanau. The church was built in the old town of Hanau, in relative proximity to the castle. In its west wall, it incorporates the medieval town wall of the old town. Stylistically, it is striking that – in the midst of the Baroque period – it uses Gothic stylistic elements, of Neo-Gothic. These include the pointed arch windows and the choir, whose orientation to the north was determined by the shape of the available plot of land. The main entrance is located in the south and is crowned by a 47 m high tower, centrally placed on the narrow side. The backward-looking stylistic choice could be due to the fact that the neighboring Reformed Marienkirche, a Gothic-influenced building from the Middle Ages, which it was intended to rival, was meant to architecturally reflect a historicity of the Lutheran confession in Hanau that did not exist.

Right by the Hanau-Wolfgang forestry office stands Hanau's tallest tree: an impressive giant sequoia, planted in 1950. A true natural monument.

Here is a nice separate bike/foot path next to the road, great.

It is a very important bridge over the Main. Trains, cars, bicycles use it, and the "Steinheimer Brücke" is also used on foot.

Here you ride on the route of the former country road. It is very pleasant to cycle, somewhat off the busy main road.

Giant sequoias can reach up to 100 meters in height and live for up to 3,000 years. So this is a young tree 🤣
