Phew, made it🏔️, arrived at the top and conquered the Čerchov (with MTB) and as a reward you now have a wonderful view at 1042 meters. Besides the wooden house facade with the inscription „ČERCHOV 1042“, the two towers also come into view during my summit push, they make the summit of Čerchov so special. The older stone tower was completed in 1905, this tower is public and can be climbed with 120 steps to the viewing platform, super great view🔝. The concrete tower was built in 1987 by the army and had a control function during the „Cold War“, probably why it is not public. In any case, a great mountain and there are many many ways to get lost. In any case, I will tackle the very interesting mountain again with my boots😃, it's worth it🚵🏻‍♂️🫶

Up here, there are peculiar rock formations waiting to be discovered. There was also once a Celtic settlement here, though I can no longer see any traces of it. On Velký and Malý Chlum, there was a prehistoric hillfort with a settlement. Investigations suggest it was divided into two parts: Velký Chlum was home to an acropolis, whose fortifications in the northeast were even doubled in size and better preserved. On Malý Chlum and in the saddle between the two peaks, there was an outer fortification with less clearly discernible fortifications. The fortifications cover a total of 10–12 hectares, making them the fourth largest in West Bohemia. Such an extensive hillfort is, however, completely unusual for the civilization of that time. The Transylvanian Mountains are considered today to have the most developed granite weathering features in Bohemia. At the southern foot of the hill are the so-called frost hollows, and on the summit lies a small rock settlement. A granite labyrinth with diverse shapes and formations. Čerchov, whose German name is "Schwarzkopf", is the highest mountain in the Bohemian Forest. There are two towers and a row of barracks on the summit. One tower is an observation tower built in 1904. The other tower, peppered with listening devices, was used as a reconnaissance post by the Soviets and the Stasi until the fall of the Berlin Wall and later by the Czech army until after 1990. For this reason, it was not permitted to climb to the top of the mountain for a long time. The reconnaissance station is part of a chain of similar listening posts along the German border and continues northwards over Velký Zvon (859 metres), Havran (894 metres) and Dyleň (939 metres).
