The monument commemorates the liberation of Domažlice by American troops on May 5, 1945. It comes from the workshop of the Klatovy sculptor Václav Fiala.

In 1341, King John of Luxembourg granted the town brewing rights. The town brewery, originally located at the Holy Spring (U Svaté studny), then moved from 1892 to 1896 into the new building at the current location, did good business. After the Second World War, the facilities were extensively modernized. The communists incorporated Pivovar města Domažlic (Brewery of the Town of Domažlice, since 1936) into the state-owned West Bohemian Breweries conglomerate. In 1995, production was shut down, and the facilities stood empty. In 2020 – after extensive revitalization – brewing returned to the historic and new buildings – combined with a cultural center, a museum, and modern gastronomy. The restaurant with its very friendly service has 130 seats inside and outside. The brewery adheres to ancient production traditions. For example, the beer "Ponocný 13" is brewed only occasionally and is always available in limited quantities. According to old tradition, it can only be produced at dawn under an ideal star constellation. When these factors coincide is decided solely by brewmaster Bohoušek. Only when he gives his okay is the dark copper, full-bodied 13-degree beer created.

The Renaissance, French for "rebirth", denotes a European cultural epoch that spanned three centuries. In the transition from the late Middle Ages to the modern era, the cultural achievements of Greek and Roman antiquity were revived. They became the benchmark for subsequent Renaissance works by scholars and artists. Groundbreaking new perspectives emerged compared to the Middle Ages, especially for architecture. The 15th and 16th centuries are considered the core period of the Renaissance. According to art historian Barbara Borngässer, architecture was no longer a secret of experienced master builders, but rose to become a cultural asset of the humanists. The closed arcades, known as "loubí", are unique in their enclosure and size for West Bohemia.

The castle was founded together with the town in the 1360s by the Bohemian King Přemysl Otakar II. It burned down in 1592 during a town fire. In the 17th century, a lengthy dispute arose over ownership rights between the town and Wolf Maximilian Laminger. In 1671, the castle fell to the town. It had the remains converted into a saltworks with a tower from 1726 to 1728. In the 19th century, the building housed the town hall, later a school. Since the 1930s, the Chod Museum has been housed there. As the castle burned down again in 1995, it was restored again. Since 1999, it has been accessible to the public again. The municipal tourist information office is also located here.

The granite monument with a bronze bust commemorates Jakub Royt (1860-1890), a native of Domažlice. This gifted academic sculptor died at the age of only thirty. Among other works, he created the sculptures Geology and Mineralogy on the facade of the National Museum in Prague. The monument was created by Václav Amort (1891-1967) and unveiled in 1935.
