Here you can hire mountain bikes for riding at Haldon Forest Park and enquire about the Segway tours that operate here. It's right next to the cafe, car park, play area and toilets so there's plenty of facilities for all the family.

Bike servicing is also offered here, so if your mountain bike could do with a little TLC, it's a great place to come. At the end of the ride, make the most of the bike wash too (a small charge applies), so that's one less thing to clean when you get home!

Ridge Ride Extreme, Haldon Forest

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Rated as a black trail, suitable for expert mountain bikers, the Ridge Ride Extreme is an extra loop that you can tack onto the red trail or session as you like.

It starts with a steep rock garden before a rooty right-hander takes you down a rather natural-feeling trail with a few large roots to navigate.

After a flatter rock garden around the next corner, you then hit a smoother, more manicured singletrack trail that flows down the hillside with a series of corners.

The way back up is no joke with a steep doubletrack fire road pedal, or should that be push?!

Kiddens Trail

Highlight • MTB Park

The blue-rated Kiddens trail is really good and has some great blasts, but can be pretty pedally in some parts too.

There are few trail features which makes it a great option for novice riders, but can also be really fun at speed!

Parts of the trail or fire roads are shared with hikers and other trail users so make sure you ride with care.

Pines Ridge Jumps

Highlight • MTB Park

More advanced jumps than Yettington, all set in a natural bowl. It can be wet as the soil takes longer to drain. Nice flight of gap jumps and some tables and drop offs. Some overhead cover. Unfortunately the landowner has closed off the small parking spot so park in the Four Firs car park and ride on over - you can either go cross country or on the road. No signage to the jumps so following the tracks from the road is easiest.

Sheeps Tor Singletrack

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

A surprisingly tricky little piece of singletrack with plenty of lumpy bits to keep you on your toes. It's perfectly possible to run it west to east, but it seems to be more fun east to west - this also gives you the gloriously steppy run back down to the reservoir road.

It's almost as if Woodbury Common was made for gravel riders and mountain bikers. Besides being the training ground for the nearby Royal Marines, the Common features a network of expansive fire roads, twisting singletracks, wooded trails and even some man-made jumps. Truly something for everyone here.

Woodbury Castle, or rather the moat that remains, is a great place to start if you've made your way here by car or bike. You could spend hours or even days exploring the commonland here, in fact I've spent years here and still get a bit lost and find new parts every now and then!

Nutcracker Trail

Highlight (Segment) • MTB Park

A startlingly rocky trail which is a real test of technical riding. It's named nutcracker on the map, but many a rider has wondered if whoever named the area in the first place, hundreds of years ago, was an amazingly prescient mountain biker!

St Andrew's Lane Descent

Highlight (Segment) • Forest

This is a Devon MTB classic: a long bridleway descent (or climb) from the village of Kenn up to the Cafe side of Haldon Forest Park. It's really narrow with some small, rollable drops so best descended, but pretty fun as a technical climb if you fancy it! In the spring look out for the bluebells, and be warned that in the wet and winter it's more like a stream bed, you will get very wet and muddy!

After leaving the trail centre on the blue-rated Kiddens Trail, this is the first descent on the loop. Zig-zagging down the hillside to the south, this is a brilliant singletrack weaving between tree stumps before a couple of bermed 180 degree turns. Let off the brakes and enjoy, this is one of the best descents at Haldon Forest Park.

Great trail for the whole family. Can relax and cruise or head down and pick up some speed. The full trail is about 7 miles so tough for little ones
