July 20, 2026, Toorongo Falls Track

Toorongo Falls Track is more than just the route to the waterfalls. Winding through tall wet forest beside the Toorongo and Little Toorongo rivers, the track passes towering mountain ash, lush tree ferns and moss-covered rocks before linking both Toorongo Falls and Amphitheatre Falls. Well-maintained paths, bridges and viewing platforms make it easy to slow down and enjoy one of Gippsland's most scenic rainforest walks.

Hidden in a fern-filled gully, Amphitheatre Falls fans gently over a broad rock face before dropping into a natural amphitheatre below. A viewing platform offers the best vantage point to appreciate its unique shape, which contrasts beautifully with the more powerful Toorongo Falls nearby. The short detour is well worth it, especially after rain when the water spreads across the rock in dozens of delicate streams.

Toorongo Falls tumbles 25 metres over a series of rocky tiers into the forest below, making it the largest waterfall on the circuit. Follow the short spur to the viewing platform for the best perspective, where the sound of rushing water echoes through the surrounding mountain ash and towering tree ferns. Visit after winter rain for the most powerful flow, when the falls are at their most impressive.

While Mount Donna Buang draws visitors for its famous lookout, Mount Victoria rewards those seeking a more peaceful walk. Surrounded by Mountain Ash forest and cool temperate vegetation, this lesser-known summit showcases the wild, forested character of the Yarra Ranges, making it an ideal place to slow down and appreciate the park's remarkable alpine environment.

It's a peaceful contrast to the exposed summit of Mount Donna Buang, offering a chance to slow down and appreciate the cool mountain environment that supports some of Victoria's tallest native trees.

July 16, 2026, Waterfall Trail

The Waterfall Walking Track 6-kilometer circuit in the Thredbo-Perisher region of Kosciuszko National Park. The track follows Sawpit Creek, and is mostly sheltered by sub-alpine forests, and winds around massive granite boulder fields. This bushwalk is an excellent year-round option. The reward at the farthest point in the circuit is a beautiful waterfall!

The trees open up around some large boulders to a nice viewpoint over the surrounding Wilsons Valley. Some folks who are comfortable scrambling can climb the boulders for a much better view over the bush.

Sawpit Creek Waterfall is a serene set of falls nestled in Thredbo-Perisher area of Kosciuszko National Park. The drop is not a massive drop, but instead a shady multi-tiered cascade where crystal-clear sub-alpine water spills over granite ledges into a peaceful gully.
