The current church building was constructed between 1951 and 1953 according to plans by Luis Plattner (1901–1976) from Bolzano. The lower and western-standing predecessor building had to be demolished along with the old village of Reschen due to the flooding of the new Reschensee dam in the late 1940s. On May 24, 2016, St. Sebastian's Church in Reschen-Neudorf was listed as a historical monument.
