The Mariental in Eisenach is an important connection between the city and the surrounding hiking trails. It connects the south of Eisenach with the Drachenschlucht. It begins on the outskirts of the city in the area of the Wartburg and is adorned here with magnificent villas. The artificially created Prinzenteich, which originated from a former swamp area and is now a popular destination for walks, is well-known in this area. The Mariental also houses the golden "M", a monument to Duchess Maria Pawlowna. Numerous hiking trails lead through the valley to the Ludwigsklamm, the Landgrafenschlucht, and the Elfengrotte. The Kartausgarten Eisenach is one of the city's oldest garden complexes and invites visitors to a relaxing stroll through an approximately 3.8-hectare historical landscape park. The garden's roots date back to the 14th century, when Carthusian monks founded a monastery here and shaped the grounds through terracing, ponds, and garden areas. Today, the park impresses with old tree stands, exotic trees, and architectural accents such as the Wandelhalle from the early 20th century. At its center is the classicist gardener's house with its ornate tea room, which features 19th-century French wall paintings. The Kartausgarten is freely accessible all year round and offers quiet paths, historical insights, and charming vistas – an ideal place for recreation and small discovery tours in the middle of Eisenach's southern district.

The listed, approximately 3.8-hectare Kartausgarten is the oldest public garden in the city of Wartburgstadt Eisenach. The Kartausgarten has been municipal property since 1930. In 1950, the deer sculptures, which gave the Hirschwiese its name, were erected, and around 1960 the heath garden was created. In 1979, the Kartausgarten was placed under protection as a cultural monument. The cultivation of ornamental plants for the entire city took place in the greenhouses at the gardener's house. These had to be demolished in the 1990s, and a pergola was built in their place. The beds around the gardener's house, elaborately designed with seasonal flowers, have been part of the facility's summer adornment for 200 years.
