Herrnsheim Castle Park

Herrnsheim Castle is one of the most outstanding Empire-style castles in Rhineland-Palatinate, and its park is idyllic and offers numerous photo opportunities. It's easy to imagine couples strolling arm in arm with a parasol, à la Jane Austen. Burg Stein (Zullestein) Ruins

Highlight • Castle

Yes, it's true, there is not much left of the castle, but I fell in love with this small, pretty place spontaneously. 💚 If you consider: THESE are remnants of OVER A THOUSAND YEARS of history - actually it's crazy that there is anything left at all! 🤭 There are shade, information boards, benches (even one with a table) and a wooden hut. So you don't burn in the sun or get rained soaking wet, you can see it all year round. For me personally it is a new, small, favorite place surrounded by forest. A place of silence and relaxation. 🍀

Leckzapfen Vineyard Cottage

Highlight • Monument

In 1891, the mill owner Gustav Weißheimer (1831-1904) built his "Gustavsburg", which is now known as the "Leckzapfen" under the name of the vineyard and was built as a miniature castle based on the example of Liechtenstein Castle on the Swabian Alp.

The gem, enthroned high in the vineyards, was voted the most beautiful vineyard house in Rheinhessen in 2011 by the Rheinhessen Wine Brotherhood and is a particularly beautiful vantage point on the Rheinterrassenweg.

The lick plug is privately owned by the Kratz winery and can be rented for events (weingut-kratz.de).

The miniature Leckzapfen castle was built in 1891 by the estate and mill owner Gustav Friedrich Weißheimer on his vineyard of the same name. The building is similar to the romantic fairytale castle Lichtenstein, whose historic reconstruction is based on the descriptions of the well-known novel "Lichtenstein" by Wilhelm Hauff.

In 2011, the Leckzapfen was awarded the title of "Most beautiful vineyard house in Rheinhessen".

From its balcony you can enjoy a wonderful view over Osthofen, the Rhine plain and the Rheinhessen hills. The Leckzapfen is one of the particularly attractive viewpoints on the Rhine Terrace Trail.

Legend has it that even in the Middle Ages, the wines were so good that the cellar master would lick the barrel's tap to get every last drop. https://www.rheinhessen.de/weinlagen/l-osthofener-leckzapfen

Miniature Castle Leckzapfen (1891) - Osthofen 🚴‍♂️ Tasty or licking, or both? And which tap? The tap or a tattoo? The location is named after the miniature castle "Leckzapfen," built in 1891 by Gustav Friedrich Weißheimer, a landowner and mill owner from Osthofen, which is why it was also called "Gustavsburg" in its early days. The brick and clinker building with a round tower on the side is a true gem – and bears a resemblance to the famous fairytale Lichtenstein Castle. After years of decay, it was lovingly renovated and voted "Rheinhessen's Most Beautiful Vineyard Cottage" in 2011. From its balcony, you can enjoy a magnificent view over Osthofen, the Rhine plain, and the Rhenish-Hessian hills. Legend has it that even in the Middle Ages, the wines were so good that the cellar master would lick the barrel's tap to get every last drop. 🚴‍♂️ https://www.rheinhessen.de/weinlagen/l-osthofener-leckzapfen-409

Stein Castle, also known as Zullestein, Stein Winery, Schlossberg, Schlossbuckel, was a lowland castle with an adjoining settlement near the village of Nordheim, in the Bergstraße district in Hesse. A burgus has been proven here since Roman times, the medieval castle was completely destroyed at the end of the 17th century and fell into oblivion. It was not until 1957 that the preserved foundations were rediscovered during oil drilling.
